The Alumnae of the Xi Psi Chapter are proud to announce the winner of the 2009 Light of the Flame Scholarship is

Alyssa Tassiello!

Alyssa was initiated in Fall of 2007, and will be a Junior next year. She is currently living in the DZ House and enjoys family, friends, DZ, being in the valley, the beach, reading good books and magazines, funny/cute movies, good times with great friends. Here are some words from our winner...

"Sisterhood is something that I never knew before I became a member of Delta Zeta. I am an only child and have never experienced the love and special relationship that only sisters can feel. Growing up, I was very close to my parents and my family, but I never had that bond or shared so many special memories with anyone as close as a sister. From the moment I experienced a preference ceremony when going through recruitment as a potential member, I felt the love that Delta Zeta had to offer. I saw the relationships that these women had made, and it moved me. It was something that I wanted to feel and knew that one day I could be in the same position. I knew that in college, I needed women like this in my life to motivate, laugh, and grow with me. The moment that I got my big sister was a moment that has changed my life forever. I truly value having someone that honest, caring, loving, and so fun to be with. I know that I have gone to her with some of my hardest moments and she has been there to help and comfort me, and I can only hope to do the same for her. This past fall, getting a little sister was also very important because now I have the opportunity to show her what a difference my big sister has made in my life. From keeping me company, coming to my rescue when I feel that nobody is on my side, or letting me cry on her shoulder when a boy breaks our hearts. To me, a sister is more than a friend in college or someone that one day I will say I used to know. She is someone that helps mold and shape your life each day, by sharing many great memories and experiences building sisterhood and making a difference in peoples lives. These are the women that I will hopefully know for the rest of my life."

2009 Light of the Flame Scholarship!

My years as an undergraduate at Grand Valley were filled with fun, laughter, tears and growth. College years go by so fast and can mean so much. I can’t imagine life without the love of my Sisters.  As long as you carry those women in your heart, and have those special memories in your mind, you are a Delta Zeta, it doesn’t matter how long it’s been since you attended a meeting, gave the handshake or worn our badge. This scholarship is to thank to all the women who made a difference in my life and became some of my best friends, in hopes to give another that same chance for friendship and love.

Actives can use this site to download the application packet in order to apply for the Scholarship. Also included on the site for all to see are the terms & conditions of the Scholarship and the deadlines for submission.
